New Delhi, Oct 24: Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra has sparked a fresh controversy after seemingly endorsing a social media post that used derogatory language against Indians celebrating Diwali abroad. The post described Indians as "braindead" and their Diwali celebrations as "retarded garbage," prompting widespread outrage and condemnation from the BJP.
Moitra replied “I agree” to a post by an unidentified user named "Nate," which read:
"Just like that, we've let braindead fu**ng Indians turn our beautiful Western countries into total shiholes with their retarded Diwali garbage that has zero to do with us."

Screenshots of her apparent endorsement circulated widely, triggering accusations of anti-India and anti-Hindu bias. The BJP West Bengal unit issued a strongly worded statement condemning Moitra, linking the incident to her previous controversial remarks and alleging repeated insults to Indian culture and Hindu traditions.
Facing mounting criticism, Moitra issued a clarification on X (formerly Twitter), stating the endorsement was a “genuine mistake”. She explained:
"Just clarifying my Twitter feed was showing a lot of videos and I meant to say 'I agree' to a video just below the racist one by some Nate. My mistake. Travelling & didn't check till now. Sorry trolls."
While some social media users accepted her explanation, others accused her of making excuses, with sarcastic comments suggesting alternative justifications. Supporters, however, defended her, noting that fast-moving social media feeds can lead to accidental clicks and appreciated her public clarification.
The controversy continues to dominate online discussions, reflecting the sensitivity around public figures and social media endorsements in India.
