Love deception ends in pregnancy, but Vishu Shetty’s timely help saves Udupi woman from tragedy

Udupi, Oct 23: In a heart-rending incident with a message for today’s youth, a young woman deceived by her lover and left pregnant was saved from a tragic fate by the swift and sensitive intervention of social worker Vishu Shetty Ambalpady.

Acting through a local counselling and rehabilitation centre, Shetty provided the distraught woman with shelter, medical care, and a new lease of life.

The woman, employed in a major metropolitan city outside the state, was abandoned after becoming pregnant.

Terrified that her condition would bring disgrace to her family and fearing humiliation from society, she suffered in silence, unable to share her ordeal with anyone.

At this critical juncture, Vishu Shetty Ambalpady came into contact with her and, through a counselling centre, offered guidance and reassurance. He provided her refuge for nearly a month and arranged for her safe delivery in a hospital.

Following the birth, the woman — after much emotional turmoil — handed over her baby to a registered adoption centre, completing all legal formalities with utmost confidentiality.

“The pain that woman endured while parting with her newborn is indescribable,” Shetty said. “Whatever the mistake, it is always the woman who bears the suffering. Young women must remain cautious and never engage in physical relationships before marriage, regardless of emotion. Parents too must not merely receive the money their daughters send from distant cities — they must stay aware of how their daughters are living there,” he added.

Haunted by the fear of social stigma and the possibility of bringing shame to her parents, the woman refrained from filing a police complaint against the man who betrayed her and chose not to inform her family.

“To protect her dignity and secure her future, all legal processes were handled discreetly. As a brother, I felt it was my duty to stand by her during this dark phase,” Shetty said.

The incident has stirred strong reactions locally and serves as a wake-up call for young women and parents — a reminder that blind love and misplaced trust can lead to irreversible consequences, but compassion and timely support can still change the course of a life.

Yes. I agree with Prakash. This man did really a good job. Now is the time to be strong and overpower these men and live life of your choice. Family support definitely required. To separate infant from mother is cruelty.

Truly a noble act by Vishu Shetty, Tears in my eyes thinking of the pain this woman had to endure. The person responsible for this cruelty must be brought to justice and held accountable to support the child’s care and the woman’s well-being throughout her life.

Good cover up! But what about child's right to know their biological father and mother? Information need to be kept in sealed cover and handed over to the child when it becomes 16. .. then we will become highly developed country. Erasing some information from the system not at all good , that creates more pain later. It is just my personal opinion

The father of the child must be held accountable. He cannot simply walk away after impregnating a woman and abandoning her to face the pain alone. The mother should sue him for the trauma and suffering he caused. No woman should be pushed into giving up her child because of a man’s irresponsibility. In countries like Canada, the father is legally required to contribute to the child’s expenses until the child turns 18. India should enforce similar laws to protect women from such injustice. The emotional wound of handing over her baby is something no amount of compensation can ever truly heal.

Was it rape? Or did physical contact occur with her consent? She knows the truth better than anyone. I feel deep sympathy for the newborn baby. Some mistakes happen without a person's awareness, but others occur with full knowledge. Are we all not feeling compassion for this young woman? I certainly feel sorrow for the newborn who has entered into adoption while the biological parents are still alive. Why is the mother unable to care for her child? She showed no shame in engaging in physical contact behind closed doors, yet the baby is born and raised in the open, which is truly shameful. She made a grave mistake, and now it is a sin to place the innocent baby for adoption.

Woman has to go through the pain during the said process, but things should change bring in a law wherein partners should pay a life time amount until death for the welfare of the child. For love feel the pain through compensating for the child!! Say 50% of the their salary!! Child play can be stopped through stringent law!!
