California semi-truck crash: Illegal immigrant charged after fiery accident kills three

California, Oct 23: Southern California authorities have arrested 21-year-old Jashanpreet Singh, an Indian national living illegally in the US, in connection with a deadly semi-truck crash that claimed three lives. Singh faces charges of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated after his truck slammed into slow-moving traffic on a San Bernardino County freeway.

Reports indicate Singh crossed the southern US border in 2022 and was released into the interior under the Biden administration’s “alternatives to detention” policy, which allows certain illegal immigrants to await hearings while not held in custody.

The collision also injured Singh and a mechanic who was assisting with a tyre change. Police confirmed Singh was under the influence of drugs at the time and did not attempt to brake before impact. Toxicology tests verified his impairment.

The US Department of Homeland Security confirmed Singh’s lack of lawful immigration status. ICE has placed an immigration detainer following his arrest, while investigations continue into the identities of the victims.
