Jhansi, Oct 23: Former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Uma Bharti has indicated her intention to contest the 2029 Lok Sabha elections from Jhansi, stating that she will not refuse if the BJP officially nominates her. Speaking to reporters, Bharti said her focus remains on cow conservation and Ganga protection, asserting that she holds no personal political ambitions beyond these causes.
Bharti later clarified on X (formerly Twitter) that her remarks were made informally during a casual interaction with party workers at Lalitpur railway station on October 18, 2025. She emphasized two conditions for contesting: official nomination from the BJP and ensuring that Jhansi MP Anurag Sharma faces no difficulty due to her decision.

As part of her ongoing activism, Bharti announced the launch of a cow conservation campaign on October 29, coinciding with Gopashtami. The year-and-a-half-long initiative will involve Gram Panchayats and farmers, with provisions to give two cows to every “Ladli Behen”, promoting sincere care. She suggested that cow shelters focus only on sick or unfit animals, while healthy cows should be reared by farmers, who would receive Rs 10,000 monthly financial aid along with land support. Bharti also revealed plans for a fund in Arab countries to support cow shelters and stated she has discussed welfare measures with Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Chief Minister Mohan Yadav.
In addition, Bharti announced a Ganga Cleaning Campaign to begin on November 4 in Prayagraj, inviting prominent personalities from across India to participate. She described cows and the Ganga as the “twin pillars of a self-reliant India”, advocating natural farming to prevent chemical runoff into the river.
Reacting to comments by Chief Minister Mohan Yadav regarding Lord Krishna, Bharti urged politicians to exercise caution, stating, “Only saints should speak on scriptures.” She also recommended improving road safety by removing cows from highways, citing models from England and the United States, and pledged to discuss the matter with Union Minister Nitin Gadkari.
Bharti’s statements underline her continued emphasis on cow welfare, river conservation, and rural development, while signaling a potential return to parliamentary politics in 2029.
