Udupi, Oct 23: The ICYM Pangla Unit, in association with St John the Evangelist Church, Pangla–Shankerpura, is all set to host the 20th Udupi Diocese-level Konkani singing competition on October 26 at 8:30 am in the Pangla Church Hall. This much-awaited annual event has been a key platform for nurturing and celebrating Konkani musical talent across the diocese.
The inaugural ceremony will be presided over by Fr Prakash Anil Castelino, parish priest of St John the Evangelist Church, Pangla; Fr Leslie Clifford D’Souza, vicar var of Shirva Deanery will be the chief guest for the inaugural program.

The valedictory ceremony will be presided over by Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo, Bishop of Udupi diocese. Fr Ferdinand Gonsalves, vicar general of Udupi diocese and Fr Denis D’Sa, Public Relations Officer of the Udupi diocese will be the chief guest for the program; Fr Steven Fernandes, director of the Youth Commission, Udupi diocese; Fr Kiran Nazareth, director of ICYM, Shirva deanery; and Remona Evette Pereira, Golden Book of World Record holder will be the guest of honor.
The contest will feature multiple categories: Children below 10 years – Group singing, children between 10–15 years – Group singing, seniors aged 15–60 years – Solo, duet and group singing. This year, another category has been added to exhibit and enhance the singing talent of seniors above 60 years – solo singing.
Marking two decades of musical excellence, the competition continues to serve as a launchpad for budding Konkani vocalists to display their talent and passion for music. Over the past 19 years, the event has evolved into a cultural tradition that unites the Konkani-speaking community through music.
