Bengaluru, Oct 22: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued yellow and orange alerts for multiple regions as heavy rain continues to lash coastal Karnataka districts, along with several parts of Karnataka. The downpour is attributed to a low-pressure area forming over the Arabian Sea, and widespread rainfall is expected across the state until October 29.
Dakshina Kannada (DK) and Udupi districts are likely to witness heavy rainfall, prompting the IMD to issue an orange alert. Wind speeds along the coast are expected to reach 35–45 kmph, and fishermen have been strictly advised not to venture into the sea as a precautionary measure. The IMD has further cautioned that winds may strengthen up to 55 kmph between October 21 and 23 along the coastal stretch.

The IMD has predicted continued intense showers along the coastal belt, as well as in the southern and northern interior regions and the Western Ghats. Bengaluru too has been witnessing intermittent drizzle since Wednesday morning, with forecasts indicating light to moderate rain accompanied by winds tomorrow. The wind speed is likely to range between 11 and 20 kmph, with maximum and minimum temperatures expected to settle at 24°C and 20°C respectively.
An orange alert has been issued for the southern interior districts of Chikkamagaluru, Shivamogga, Kodagu, Chamarajanagar, and Hassan. Meanwhile, light rainfall is expected in Bengaluru Rural, Chikkaballapur, Chitradurga, Davanagere, Kolar, Mandya, Mysuru, Ramanagara, and Tumakuru districts.
In the northern interior parts, including Bagalkote, Belagavi, Bidar, Dharwad, Gadag, Haveri, Kalaburagi, Koppal, Raichur, and Yadgir, light rain is also likely. Cloudy skies and occasional drizzle are expected in Ballari and Vijayanagara. Evening showers are forecast in thunderstorm-prone regions such as Kodagu, Hassan, Chikkamagaluru, and Shivamogga.
Light to moderate rain is also likely in Uttara Kannada district. With heavy rain forecasted across several regions, authorities have urged residents and fishermen to remain vigilant and follow safety advisories.
