Cristiano Ronaldo unlikely to travel to India for FC Goa vs Al Nassr clash

Margao, Oct 21: Football superstar Cristiano Ronaldo is unlikely to travel to India for Al Nassr’s upcoming AFC Champions League 2 Group D clash against FC Goa at the Fatorda Stadium on Wednesday, according to reports from Saudi Arabian media.

Despite earlier speculation that Ronaldo had applied for an Indian visa and might feature in the fixture, sources now indicate that the Portuguese legend will not be part of the travelling squad, despite multiple requests from FC Goa.

Ronaldo, who has been managing his workload in preparation for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, was also absent from Al Nassr’s first two matches of the competition.

Speaking to The Indian Express, FC Goa CEO Ravi Puskur said, “We do not have any clarity at present. His team has said they are exploring options and will take a decision closer to time. We are following up and yet to get confirmation.”

He added that Ronaldo’s name was included in the initial list of 28 players submitted for visa applications, as part of the visiting team’s protocol.

Meanwhile, Portugal’s assistant coach Ricardo Carvalho told A BOLA that Ronaldo remains committed to the national side. “It will be as long as he wants. He’s earned so much credit over the years and continues to perform well. Coach Roberto Martinez believes Cristiano will be capable of making it to the World Cup,” Carvalho said.

The FC Goa vs Al Nassr fixture is one of the most anticipated football events in India, but with Ronaldo’s absence now almost certain, fans may have to wait longer to see the football icon play on Indian soil.
