Kasargod, Oct 20: In a heart-wrenching overseas tragedy, a 39-year-old man from Thuminadu, near Manjeshwar, lost his life in Doha, Qatar, after being struck by an ambulance while repairing a punctured tyre on his taxi.

The deceased has been identified as Haris, son of Aboobacker (popularly known as Abbuchcha), a resident of Hill Top Nagar, Thuminadu.

Haris had been working in Doha as a taxi driver for several years and had recently returned to Qatar after a short visit to his hometown in Kerala.

The fatal incident occurred on Sunday, when his taxi suffered a puncture. While attempting to fix it on the roadside with the help of a Bangladeshi national, an ambulance is reported to have rammed into them.

Both men suffered severe injuries and tragically died while being rushed to hospital. The accident occurred at around 3 pm, Qatar time (12:30 pm ).

According to family sources, arrangements are underway to bring Haris’s body back to Thuminadu for the final rites.

Haris’s untimely death has plunged the local community into deep sorrow. Beyond his role as a migrant worker, he was deeply respected for his quiet philanthropy.

“He believed in helping others without seeking recognition. A portion of his income regularly went to orphanages, old age homes, education for underprivileged children, and patients in need,” said a local resident. “He never advertised his donations or spoke about them. He simply did what he felt was right,” the resident added.

Locals say Haris embodied the adage: Let not the left hand know what the right hand gives.” Despite his modest means, he consistently supported the disadvantaged — without publicity or social media fanfare.

His death at just 39 has not only devastated his family but also left a lasting void in the hearts of those who knew his selfless nature. Thuminadu mourns the loss of a son who gave silently and lived humbly.

R.I.P Harris. It is very tragic to see young lives lost, in particular when they were bread winners of the family. As he was killed by an Ambulance driver, the government should give the family sufficient compensation.
