Ranchi, Oct 19: A 47-year-old hotel owner in Ranchi was shot dead after allegedly serving a vegetarian customer non-veg biryani, police said on Sunday.
The incident occurred around 11:30 pm on Saturday at a hotel on Kanke-Pithoria Road. The customer initially took a parcel of vegetarian biryani but later returned with others, claiming he had been served non-vegetarian biryani, according to Superintendent of Police (Rural) Praveen Pushkar.

The restaurant owner, identified as Vijay Kumar Nag (47), was dining at a table when an assailant opened fire, hitting him in the chest. Nag succumbed to his injuries while being rushed to the hospital. He was a resident of Bhittha in the Kanke police station area.
Nag’s body has been sent for post-mortem examination at the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS). Police are conducting raids at multiple locations to apprehend the suspects.
In response to the killing, irate locals blocked the Kanke-Pithoria Road on Sunday morning, demanding action against the culprits. The blockade was later lifted after police assured prompt arrests, said Kanke police station officer-in-charge Prakash Rajak.
Authorities are also investigating whether any other motive could have contributed to the attack, with further details awaited as the probe continues.
