Perth, Oct 17: Ahead of the first ODI between India and Australia at the Optus Stadium on Sunday, Australia’s dynamic batter Travis Head showered praise on Indian stalwarts Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, calling them two of the greatest white-ball players of all time.
The duo, who retired from Test cricket earlier this year, are set to make their return to international action after a gap of more than seven months. However, discussions around their future — particularly their potential participation in the 2027 World Cup to be held in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia — continue to draw attention.

Speaking at a pre-match media interaction, Head expressed immense admiration for the Indian veterans. “They have been awesome for India. Two quality players — two of the best white-ball batters ever. Virat is probably the greatest white-ball player, and Rohit is not far behind,” Head said.
With a light-hearted moment during the conversation, Head looked toward Indian all-rounder Axar Patel, who was standing beside him, seeking “confirmation” about Kohli and Rohit’s future. Axar responded with a smile and a chuckle, leaving the speculation delightfully open-ended.
“I have huge regard for what Rohit has achieved as an opener. I’m sure they’ll be missed at some stage, but I think both are going until 2027,” Head added with a grin, drawing laughter from the media present.
Axar Patel, when asked about the duo’s readiness for the series, said, “They are world-class players. They know what to do and are fully prepared. They’re professionals and ready to go.”
As both sides prepare for the high-voltage series, the spotlight remains firmly on Kohli and Rohit — two icons whose presence continues to elevate the excitement and stature of every India-Australia clash.
