Karkala: Manjunath Pai College launches fine arts and yakshagana classes

Karkala, Oct 16: The Manjunath Pai Memorial Government First Grade College, inaugurated its Fine Arts Association, Yakshagana Association, Shreshtakala Dance Forum, and Chende classes for the academic year 2025-26 on October 16.

Manjunath Bhavi, the proprietor of Shri Mahaganapathi Chende Works, Karkala, inaugurated the event by lighting the lamp, stressing that Yakshagana and Chende are vital parts of our culture.

The chief guest, B Padmanabha Gowda, retired principal of Bhuvanendra College and convener of Yakshakala Ranga highlighted that Yakshagana is a devotional art that prioritises the praise of God. He described its specialties singing, dancing, music, and make-up and noted its benefit for students' physical and mental health.

Mahaveera Pandi, Yakshagana teacher added that the coastal art fosters a peaceful mind and noble thoughts in students.

The principal, Dr Suresh Rai K, presided over the function, stating that Yakshagana is the art of the coastal region and a symbol of our culture, tradition, and practices.

The programme, organised by convener of Fine Arts Association Soumya H K and convener of Yakshagana Association convener Dr Sudarshan P, began with a Bhagavathike performance.

The event was compered by Thrupthi (Third BA), welcomed by Dhanush (Third BCom), and concluded with a vote of thanks by Sanchith Hegde (Third BCA).

IQAC coordinator Vinaya M S and student welfare officer Dr Chandravathi were also present.
