Mangaluru, Oct 16: In a major crackdown, Lokayukta officials raided the office of the Pilikula Development Authority (PDA) on Wednesday, following serious allegations of corruption, administrative lapses, and financial mismanagement.
The raid, led by DySP Dr Gana P Kumar, was conducted at the PDA headquarters located on the outskirts of Mangaluru.
The officials examined files and financial records related to tenders, grant utilisation, and overall expenditure, amid growing concerns of misappropriation and negligence.

According to sources, the Lokayukta is investigating alleged misuse of government funds, irregularities in the tendering process, possible fraud in the supply of food for zoo animals, and serious lapses in the management and maintenance of the zoo. These issues reportedly came to light after multiple complaints were filed by concerned stakeholders pointing to widespread misgovernance within the Authority.
“There is a clear pattern of administrative negligence and financial inconsistency that warranted this action,” said a senior Lokayukta official familiar with the investigation.
This is not the first time the PDA has come under the Lokayukta’s radar. On May 23 this year, officials had carried out an unannounced inspection at the same office in response to similar complaints. The recurrence of these issues has now prompted a more detailed inquiry.
The Pilikula Nisargadhama, managed by the Authority, is one of coastal Karnataka’s most prominent eco-heritage and tourism projects. It includes a zoological park, botanical garden, science centre, heritage village, and lake, drawing thousands of visitors annually. However, the latest developments have raised questions about its internal functioning, particularly in relation to financial integrity and animal welfare.
With the investigation now underway, the Lokayukta team is expected to submit a report detailing its findings. If the allegations are substantiated, officials could face disciplinary action or criminal charges under the relevant laws.
Further updates are awaited as the probe progresses.
