Mangaluru: Pumpwell–Kankanady Road work begins; temporary route diversions in place until April 15

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru

Mangaluru, Oct 15: The road stretch from Pumpwell Circle to Kankanady Bypass in Mangaluru is undergoing phased development work, prompting the city traffic police to announce temporary traffic diversions in the area. The diversions will remain in effect until April 15, 2026, covering a seven-month construction period.

As part of the project’s first and second phases, one side of the dual carriageway from Karavali Junction to Pumpwell has been designated as a one-way route for vehicle movement. Similarly, the Pumpwell to Kankanady Old Road–Kankanady Junction stretch has also been made temporarily one-way.

Parking of any kind of vehicle on either side of these one-way stretches is strictly prohibited.

According to the notification issued by the City Police Commissioner, vehicles coming from Padil and Thokkottu towards Pumpwell Circle and heading to Karavali Junction must now proceed via Kankanady Old Road to Kankanady Junction, take a right turn, and continue towards Karavali Junction.

Likewise, vehicles coming from Fanneer Road and Valencia Road towards Pumpwell must travel via Kankanady Junction, head straight to Karavali Junction, take a right turn, and then proceed towards Pumpwell Circle.

The Mangaluru City Police have appealed to motorists to cooperate with the temporary changes to ensure smooth traffic flow and support the timely completion of the road development works.

This kalasa has been placed in a completely unsafe manner. I respect the sentiments of Mangaloreans towards it, but it should be installed properly and securely.

Do it right the first time. Let us hope it is done right this time. The interlock in front of Capationo school is being done for a second time in just a week. Obviously there is no time bound contract. Neither there is any stage wise inspection and approval. Just a Chaltha Hai attitude. For how long this is going to continue.

Why the construction duration is Seven/7 months for a small stretch road work?! This is too much construction duration limit. I presume it is only a two months works period sufficient, at the most three/3 months. Why seven/7 months?! Please remember Mangalore has just completed a slack business (rainy)season and now when the business is at the peek, the district administration curtailing business of the people. My request to the district administration to finish off the work within three/months. Thank you.

Will have to work day in and day out to complete such huge strech of road in so little time. 200 kilometres in such short period . Amazing. But it will be achieved. When we look at How quickly Morgan's gate underpass work completed anything is possible in new India. Once the work completed road will last for thousands of years without collapsing.
