New Delhi, Oct 15: The Indian men’s cricket team left New Delhi on Wednesday morning for Australia ahead of a high-profile white-ball tour comprising three ODIs and five T20Is. The tour also marks the return of veterans Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma to international cricket, while Shubman Gill leads the ODI squad as the new captain.

The ODI series will commence on Sunday at Perth’s Optus Stadium, followed by matches on October 23 and 25. The T20I series is scheduled from October 29 to November 8.

Key players spotted at Delhi airport included Shubman Gill, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Dhruv Jurel, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Harshit Rana, KL Rahul, Washington Sundar, Arshdeep Singh, Nitish Kumar Reddy, and Prasidh Krishna.

Kohli and Sharma were last seen in action during the Champions Trophy, where India went unbeaten. Rohit Sharma’s 76 off 83 balls in the final earned him the Player of the Match award. Both players have now retired from T20Is following India’s T20 World Cup triumph in Barbados and have also stepped away from Test cricket prior to the England tour, becoming one-format specialists.

Chief selector Ajit Agarkar confirmed that Rohit Sharma has been relieved of his ODI captaincy, with leadership duties handed over to Shubman Gill. Sharma will continue to feature as a batsman in the ODI format.

ODI Squad: Shubman Gill (C), Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer (VC), Axar Patel, KL Rahul (WK), Nitish Kumar Reddy, Washington Sundar, Kuldeep Yadav, Harshit Rana, Mohammed Siraj, Arshdeep Singh, Prasidh Krishna, Dhruv Jurel (WK), Yashasvi Jaiswal.

The leadership change and return of the veterans are viewed as a strategic move as India gears up for the 2027 World Cup in South Africa.
