Mangaluru, Oct 11: A man was arrested for allegedly posting content on social media in support of the banned organisation Popular Front of India (PFI) and promoting it online, police said.

The arrested individual has been identified as Syed Ibrahim Thangal (55), a resident of Beejathali House, Ramakunja village in Kadaba taluk.

According to police, the Government of India banned the PFI in 2022, declaring it an unlawful organisation. Despite the ban, the accused allegedly promoted the organisation and created public unrest. Consequently, a case was registered under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) at Mangaluru North police station.

Police arrested the accused near Urwa Stores in Mangaluru on Thursday and seized his mobile phone. He was later produced before the 49th Additional City Civil and Sessions Court and Special Court for NIA cases in Bengaluru, which remanded him to judicial custody till October 24, police added.

This person is to be strictly dealt wit, without any sympathy. His attitude and mindset is not in line with law of our country. He need not be given any opportunity to defend. No NGO or human right organisation need have soft corner as he is not in his adolescent age or immature adult. He is well versed with our constitution and legal provisions of IPS rules. I salute the Mangalore police deptt for their hardwork. I have mostly Muslim friends who are law abiding, very civilized, disciplined citizens. Punish severely all those gentlemen ( women) who blatantly violate/ challenge our system.
