Spain postpones travel to Elche ahead of World Cup qualifier against Georgia due to bad weather

Daijiworld Media Network - Madrid

Madrid, Oct 10: The Spanish national football team has delayed its trip to Elche for Saturday’s World Cup qualifier against Georgia owing to adverse weather conditions, the Spanish Football Federation announced on Thursday.

Originally scheduled to travel early Friday, the team postponed plans after a weather alert was issued for southeastern Spain, warning of heavy rain and potential flooding. The federation sought UEFA’s authorization to conduct all pre-match activities, including press conferences, at the team’s training center in Madrid. The squad is now expected to travel to Elche on Saturday.

Additionally, the federation suspended the board meeting and other planned activities in Elche following local authorities’ recommendations to limit travel to essential purposes only.

Spain will next face Bulgaria in Valladolid on Tuesday in another World Cup qualifying fixture.
