Guwahati, Oct 10: Two personal security officers (PSOs) of Assamese music legend Zubeen Garg—Nandeswar Bora and Paresh Baishya—have been arrested by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the singer’s death, police confirmed on Friday.

Both officers had been suspended earlier following revelations of large, unexplained financial transactions in their accounts. Investigators uncovered over Rs 1.1 crore in total, with Bora’s account showing around Rs 70 lakh and Baishya’s Rs 40–45 lakh—amounts far exceeding their known sources of income.

Sources indicate that Zubeen had entrusted his PSOs with money for charitable and social causes, which was reportedly stored and distributed through their accounts over the past four to five years. Bora and Baishya had been attached to Zubeen for several years after the singer received death threats from the banned ULFA group nearly a decade ago.

Speaking on Thursday, Zubeen’s wife, Garima Saikia Garg, said the funds were for benevolent purposes but distanced herself from the singer’s personal finances, appealing to the public not to politicize the case. She also criticized the circulation of videos allegedly showing Zubeen’s final moments.

The SIT, constituted by the Assam government, continues to probe both financial and personal aspects of the case to bring clarity on the circumstances surrounding the singer’s death in Singapore last month, which has left fans and family demanding transparency.
