Bantwal, Oct 9: Police have arrested two individuals and seized 8.79 kg of ganja during a patrol operation conducted within the Bantwal Town Police Station limits on Wednesday morning.
According to police sources, PSI Sandeep Kumar Shetty (Crime and Security) and his team were on rounds at around 11.50 am when they noticed two men riding a motorcycle without helmets near Gudinabali, heading from Panemangalore towards Bisi Road. When the police signalled them to stop, they attempted to flee toward Gudinabali but were intercepted near the Kaikunje railway station area.
On questioning, the riders identified themselves as Abdul Sadiq and Abdul Majeed, who were travelling on a motorcycle bearing registration number KA-19-HK-9534. Upon interrogation, they confessed to being involved in an earlier case on September 25, where ganja was being transported in a Bolero pickup (KA-70-6904). The vehicle had evaded excise department officials pursuing it, and the duo had abandoned the pickup along with the contraband near a vacant railway property at Nandavara. The seized ganja had been stored at Majeed’s residence, from where they were planning to sell it.
Police stated that the accused had previously sold ganja to individuals identified as Chota Ashraf and Azaruddin from Farangipete and were on their way to sell the remaining stock to other customers in Mangaluru.
A total of 8.79 kg of ganja packed in five plastic bundles was seized, estimated to be worth Rs 88,700. The motorcycle used for transport, valued at about Rs 1,00,000, was also confiscated. The total value of the seized property is estimated at Rs 2,17,460.
A case has been registered at Bantwal Town police station under Crime No. 116/2025, Sections 8(c) and 20(b)(ii)(B) of the NDPS Act, and Section 3(5) of the BNS.
