Mangaluru, Oct 8: A man who had been absconding for nearly 12 years in connection with a criminal case was arrested by Bunder police in Mangaluru.

The accused, identified as Altaf (47), a resident of Kasaba Bengre, was wanted in a case registered at Bunder police station back in 2004. He had failed to appear before the second CJM court, and had been on the run ever since.

The court had categorised the case as a long-pending matter due to the prolonged absence of the accused.

A special team comprising ASI Babu, and constables Guru B T and Sunil Kumar N from the Mangaluru North police station traced and apprehended Altaf in the Bunder area recently.

Following his arrest, Altaf was produced before court, which remanded him to judicial custody.
