Maithili Thakur set to enter Bihar politics

Daijiworld Media Network – Patna

Patna, Oct 7: Classical singer Maithili Thakur is likely to contest the Bihar Assembly Election 2025 from her home constituency, Madhubani, amid growing speculation. The rumours gained traction after BJP Bihar in-charge Vinod Tawde shared pictures of a meeting with Maithili and her father alongside Union Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai in New Delhi.

Tawde, sharing the images on X (formerly Twitter), hailed Maithili as “Bihar’s daughter” and welcomed her back to the state. Taking a dig at the RJD, he wrote, “The families that left Bihar after Lalu came into power in 1995, the daughter of that family, the renowned singer Maithili Thakur ji, wants to return to Bihar seeing the pace of changing Bihar.”

Both Rai and Tawde reportedly urged Maithili to contribute for the people of Bihar and fulfill their expectations. Responding, Thakur expressed gratitude, saying, “The people who dream big for Bihar, every conversation with them reminds me of the power of vision and service. Honoured and grateful from the heart.”

The singer, hailing from the Mithila region of Madhubani and Darbhanga, may be offered either Madhubani or Aligarh (Darbhanga) by the BJP. She has reportedly expressed her willingness to contest if given the chance.

The Bihar election schedule was announced on Monday, with voting set in two phases, on November 6 and 11, and counting of votes on November 14.

Thakur had previously received national recognition, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi praising her in January 2024 for singing about Maa Shabri during the Ram Temple inauguration in Ayodhya. She was also among the 24 influencers awarded at the first National Creators Awards in 2024, receiving the title ‘Cultural Ambassador of The Year’ for promoting India’s cultural heritage.
