Mangaluru: Aid distributed to students under Michael D'Souza & Family Educare Endowment Fund

Mangaluru, Oct 5: A motivation programme organized under the Michael D'Souza and Family Educare Endowment Fund, managed by CODP of the Diocese of Mangalore, was held at Rosario Church Hall, Mangaluru, on Sunday, October 5.

The day began with registration, breakfast, and the signing of the agreement related to the Educare Endowment Fund. This was followed by a prayer session invoking blessings for the success of the initiative.

Renowned Konkani writer and Educare management committee member Richard Alvares delivered an inspiring orientation and motivational talk, setting the tone for the event by encouraging students to pursue their academic goals with passion and perseverance.

The formal stage programme commenced with a welcome address and introduction by Fr Vincent D'Souza, who warmly received the dignitaries, students, and guests.

The programme was presided over by Dr Peter Paul Saldanha, bishop of Mangalore diocese. In his presidential address, the bishop elaborated on the vision, purpose, and significant achievements of the Educare Endowment Fund. He expressed heartfelt gratitude to Michael D'Souza and family for their unwavering generosity and commitment to the cause of education. The event was graced by Sylvia D'Souza and Vincent D'Silva as chief guests.

Two student beneficiaries, Sania Lobo and Clesia Fernandes, shared moving testimonies about how the Educare Fund had enabled them to continue their higher education, transforming their academic journey and future prospects.

In a notable achievement, Rs 2,52,19,000 was distributed among 250 students at this event. Earlier this year, Rs 1,90,10,000 had been distributed to 218 students, bringing the total disbursal for the year 2025 to Rs 4,42,29,000. To date, the fund has disbursed over Rs 30 crore, making a lasting impact on thousands of young lives.

The vote of thanks was delivered by Reena D'Costa, who expressed gratitude to all those who contributed to the success of the event. The programme was compered by Shainy Pinto. The day concluded with the celebration of Holy Mass, followed by lunch.

The Michael D'Souza and Family Education Fund, also known as the Educare Endowment Fund, is a revolving, interest-free loan fund established by philanthropist Michael D'Souza to support Catholic students in the Udupi and Mangalore dioceses to pursue higher education. Managed by the Canara Organisation for Development and Peace (CODP) in the Mangalore diocese, the fund aims to help economically weaker students by providing loans that are to be repaid within 18 months of completing their studies, thus enabling it to assist future generations.
