Bantwal, Oct 5: The police have invoked the Karnataka Control of Organised Crimes Act (KCOCA) against all the accused in connection with the murder of Abdul Rehman of Kolatamajalu and the assault on Khalandar Shafi that took place at Irakodi in Kurniyal village, Bantwal taluk, on May 27.
The Bantwal rural police had earlier arrested 13 accused — Deepak, Chintan, Prithviraj Jogi, Sumit B Acharya, V Raviraj Moulya, Abhin Rai, Tejaksha, Ravisanjay G S of Sringeri, Shivaprasad Thumbe, Pradeep, Shahith alias Sahith, Sachin alias Satchu Rottigudde, and Ranjith — and produced them before the court.

All the accused are currently in judicial custody. During the arrest, most of them were taken into police custody for interrogation.
Another accused, Bharathraj alias Bharath Kumdelu (29), is still absconding. The police stated that the accused have been involved for several years in criminal activities, including murder, attempt to murder, and delivering provocative speeches, thereby disturbing social harmony and inciting communal tension.
Based on this, and with the approval of the Inspector General of Police, Western Range, a case has been registered under the KCOCA, and further investigation is underway.
