Bengaluru, Oct 4: The Government of Karnataka has announced the State Film Awards for 2021, honouring excellence in Kannada cinema across artistic, technical, and performance categories.

Leading the honours was Doddahatti Boregowda, which was adjudged best film, while 777 Charlie and Bisilu Kudure were named second best and third best films, respectively.

In a strong year for Kannada cinema, Rakshit Shetty won the Subbaiah Naidu Best Actor Award for his emotionally powerful performance in 777 Charlie, while Archana Jois received the best actress award for her role in Mute, a film that explores a woman’s emotional healing through her bond with a dog.

Speaking from the United States, Rakshit Shetty expressed gratitude for the recognition, attributing the success to the team’s collective effort. Director Kiranraj K revealed the extent of Rakshit’s dedication to the role, stating he underwent nearly a year of training with the dog, endured over 70 retakes, and stepped well out of his comfort zone, including applying fish oil and using food props to emotionally connect with the canine co-star.

Archana Jois, reacting to her first State Award, said, “My role in Mute reflects a deep human-animal connection. The story of a divorced woman finding emotional healing through a dog resonated with many. I am truly honoured.”
