Abu Dhabi police warn drivers after chain crash from sudden stop

Daijiworld Media Network – Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi, Oct 3: Abu Dhabi Police released dramatic footage showing a serious traffic accident triggered by a vehicle stopping unexpectedly in the middle of a busy road, causing a chain collision with other inattentive drivers.

The video, shared through the Command and Control Center as part of the “Your Comment” public safety campaign, highlights the dangers of sudden stops and distracted driving. Officials said many collisions occurred because motorists failed to react in time to the unexpected hazard.

Authorities stressed that stopping in active lanes is strictly prohibited, even for mechanical issues, and drivers must move to the nearest shoulder or designated stopping area. If the vehicle cannot be moved, motorists are instructed to call 999 immediately to get police support. Other road users encountering stopped vehicles should activate hazard lights, maintain safe distance, and remain alert.

UAE law imposes strict penalties for reckless road behavior:

• Stopping randomly: AED 1,000 fine + 6 black points
• Obstructing traffic flow: AED 500 fine
• Mobile phone use/distraction: AED 400 fine + 4 black points
• Running a red light: AED 1,000 fine + 12 black points, 30-day vehicle impoundment

Abu Dhabi Police emphasized that even brief distractions can have catastrophic consequences and urged drivers to remain focused, never stop in active lanes, and report unsafe behavior through official channels.
