Sindhudurg, Oct 3: At least three members of a family drowned in the Arabian Sea during a picnic at Shiroda-Velagar beach in Sindhudurg district, Maharashtra, while four others remain missing, police said.

The incident occurred around 4 pm when all eight family members, including six from Belagavi (Karnataka) and two locals from Kudal, entered the sea for swimming. Officials said they underestimated the depth of the water, leading to the tragedy.

A 16-year-old girl from the group was rescued by police and local disaster management teams. Rescue operations continued until late evening in search of the four missing family members.

Authorities have urged beachgoers to exercise caution and adhere to safety guidelines while swimming in the Arabian Sea.
