Kundapur: Giant tree uprooted with roots, damages post office building

Kundapur, Oct 3: A massive decades-old devadari tree near the old taluk office in Kundapur uprooted along with its roots on Thursday evening, causing significant damage to the sub-post office building of Kundapur Market.

The tree fell on the post office building located near the office of the revenue department’s revenue inspector, also damaging nearby electricity poles. Fortunately, as it was a government holiday, no one was present at the site, and there were no casualties. The tree fell directly onto the building, causing extensive structural damage.

The area where the tree fell is usually crowded with pedestrians and vehicles, and the post office typically sees a high number of visitors. Given that Oct 2 was a government holiday on account of Vijayadashami and Gandhi Jayanti, a potentially serious accident was averted.

Kundapur tahsildar Pradeep Kurdekar visited the site and conducted an inspection. Officials from the police, MESCOM, forest department, and municipal authorities also visited the location and have initiated necessary action to address the damage.
