Mumbai, Oct 1: A 34-year-old autorickshaw driver, wanted for the rape and murder of a sex worker in Mumbai, was arrested from Mathura in Uttar Pradesh, police said on Tuesday.
The incident occurred on September 25 in the Malad area, and the accused was identified as Chandrapal Ramkhiladi alias Neta. According to Malwani police, a call was received about a woman lying unconscious at Sawant Compound on Church Road. She was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared her dead.

An autopsy later confirmed that the victim had been strangled. CCTV footage examined by police showed the accused using the victim’s dupatta to kill her, following a financial dispute between them. Investigators also identified the victim as a commercial sex worker.
Following the investigation, police traced the accused to Mathura, where a special team arrested him. During interrogation, he confessed to the crime, officials said.
The accused was produced before a court in Mathura and is being brought to Mumbai on a transit remand for further investigation.
