Mangaluru, Sep 28: The Corpus Christi Sunday was celebrated with great devotion and pomp by the friars and the faithful at Monte Mariano Church, Farangipet, on Sunday, September 28. The Holy Eucharist was celebrated by Fr Denis Gabriel Veigas OFM Cap, the guardian of the Capuchin Friary, popularly known as the Covent, and a homily preached by Fr Henry D’Souza OFM Cap, the novice master. The Most Holy Blessed Sacrament was taken on a decorated chariot, Adyar, led by the Brass Band of Fajir, along with another chariot with choir and music.
Fr Melroy D’Silva OFM Cap, after accompanying the Blessed Sacrament during the procession that covered the market road of Farangipet, and then the Bengaluru-Mangaluru national highway, and on re-entry into the Church, conducted praise and worship service before giving the Solemn Benediction. The rain was pouring heavily due to the cyclonic depression even as the Holy Mass began at 8 am.

During the intense prayer intercession by the faithful, right at the moment the procession was to commence the rain stopped. With this Eucharistic procession the doors are open for the forthcoming annual feast of St Francis of Assisi on the October 4 for the priests and religious, and the public feast of Monte Mary Coventu Devaru Church on the October 5.
