Chittoor, Sep 26: A police constable and a home guard were arrested on Thursday for allegedly raping a woman who had approached the authorities for help in Chittoor district, Andhra Pradesh.

The 28-year-old survivor alleged that Constable Umashankar of Punganur police station and Home Guard Kiran Kumar gave her a drink laced with sedatives and repeatedly raped her. She further claimed that the accused threatened to kill her three children if she reported the incident. The home guard allegedly also harassed her through repeated phone calls.

Despite approaching multiple police stations to file a complaint, the survivor said no action was taken for nearly two weeks. It was only after she made a public appeal for justice that the police registered a case.

Deputy Superintendent of Police of Palamaner, Degala Prabhakar, confirmed that Bangarupalyam police have filed a case under relevant sections following her public appeal.
