Udupi, Sep 26: In a tragic accident near the Kamath petrol pump on National Highway 66 in Udupi, a tipper truck travelling from Udupi towards Padubidri rammed into a stationary pickup van and then hit a pedestrian, killing him on the spot. The incident occurred on Thursday, September 25.

The deceased has been identified as Rajkumar Sharma (23), a migrant worker from Bihar, who was employed at a plywood factory in Ermal. He was reportedly walking towards Padubidri with co-workers when the accident occurred.

Following the initial collision with the parked pickup, the vehicle crashed into the old godown wall of the Padubidri Agricultural Co-operative Society, damaging the structure and causing further loss to the society.

Eyewitnesses blamed the accident on the tipper driver’s reckless driving.

After being struck, Rajkumar Sharma was found in a critical condition and was rushed to a private hospital in Mukka, but succumbed to his injuries en route.

Police investigations are underway.
