Bengaluru, Sept 25: Arising from colourful discussions and lively student excitement, Christ (Deemed to be University), Bengaluru Central Campus, hosted Phil Murphy, Governor of New Jersey, and Tammy Murphy, the first lady of New Jersey, along with a high-level delegation from the United States.

The visit, organised by the Office of International Affairs (OIA), brought together academics, admissions officers, diplomats, and business leaders. Held on September 23, from 11 am onwards at the 10th Floor, Campus View, Central Block, the event welcomed an eager audience of students from Political Science, History, Public Policy, and International Studies.

Following a vibrant welcome by students, faculty members, and a captivating performance by the university dance team, Dr Fr Jose C C felicitated the Governor and first lady, extending the university’s formal greetings.

Speaking to the students, Governor Phil Murphy highlighted the vast array of academic and professional opportunities available in New Jersey. “The democratic histories of India and the United States draw us closer together and lay the groundwork for deeper academic and cultural engagement,” he remarked.

He spoke about New Jersey’s dynamic political legacy, rich ethnic diversity, and its appeal as a destination for international students. "We welcome Indian students and scholars to our universities," he said, noting the presence of university representatives from the US and their shared interest in strengthening intellectual collaborations with institutions like CHRIST.

The Governor’s address was followed by a candid and interactive Q&A session, where students posed thoughtful questions on diplomacy, democracy, and education. The session was moderated by Dennison Joseph, associate director of the Office of International Affairs. Students described the exchange as both inspiring and insightful.

The first lady and other members of the delegation also interacted with students, further building bridges of dialogue between the two regions.

The session ended with a heartfelt vote of thanks and mementoes presented to the dignitaries, leaving students feeling empowered and hopeful about future academic pathways in the United States.
