Mangaluru: Minister Priyank Kharge slams BJP, says law will take its course

Mangaluru, Sep 24: Minister Priyank Kharge strongly criticised the BJP for allegedly politicising issues and questioned why the opposition party was not being held accountable for its actions.

Speaking to reporters, Kharge said, “We cannot simply do whatever we like; there are rules and regulations. When it comes to our work, you question us. Why are you not asking BJP about these matters?”

He recalled that BJP leaders had organised the “Dharmasthala Chalo” programme, but questioned the intent behind it. “On stage they speak about Dharmasthala, and later in the evening they go to Sowjanya’s house. The BJP candidate himself declared in front of everyone that he would be the backbone of sowjanya if the matter went to the Supreme Court,” he alleged.

Responding to criticism directed at the government, Kharge stated, “Who ordered the SIT? Why are you questioning us? Why don’t you question BJP? This is an RSS vs RSS fight. Don’t blame the government—we are not interested.”

On reports about invitations, Kharge clarified that the government had no prior information. “If BJP knew about it, then good for them. But we had no such knowledge,” he said.

The minister reiterated that the law would be applied equally. “Some people talk one way on stage and behave differently off stage. The government will take strict action against whoever has committed the crime. No matter how big a person may be, crime is crime. The government will see to it,” he affirmed.
