Panaji, Sep 24: What was initially feared to be a gunshot injury to a 35-year-old labourer in Sattari has now taken a twist, with police suggesting the wound may have been caused by an unknown object thrown at the victim.
The incident occurred around 7:30 p.m. last Saturday near the Karapur-Tisk junction, when Mohammad Akhtar Alam, a labourer from Bihar, was sitting with two others. According to a press note, Alam heard a loud sound resembling an electric spark, and immediately after, something struck the right side of his neck, causing significant bleeding.
His companions, though startled by the noise and the injury, did not see anyone in the vicinity. They promptly contacted Alam’s brother and rushed him to CHC Sankhalim, from where he was referred to GMC Bambolim for advanced medical care.

While early speculation pointed toward a possible firearm attack, Valpoi Police are now uncertain. “We are exploring all possibilities. The injury might have been caused by a projectile or object rather than a bullet,” an officer said.
Interestingly, local residents reported hearing nothing unusual, and no eyewitness has confirmed seeing a shooter or suspect in the area.
Police have registered the case under Crime No. 55/2025, invoking Sections 125 and 118 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023. The investigation remains ongoing, and no suspect has been identified or detained as of now.
Authorities are reviewing CCTV footage and collecting forensic evidence to determine the exact cause and nature of the incident.
