New Delhi, Sep 23: The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) recorded a robust net addition of 21.04 lakh members in July 2025, marking a 5.55% rise compared to the same month last year. This growth signals improving employment opportunities and greater awareness of employee benefits, according to an official statement released Tuesday.
In July, EPFO enrolled around 9.79 lac new subscribers, with a notable majority coming from the younger 18-25 age group. This demographic alone contributed 5.98 lakh new subscribers, accounting for 61.06% of all new additions, reflecting strong youth participation, especially first-time job seekers.
The net payroll addition for the 18-25 age bracket reached approximately 9.13 lac in July, a 4.09% increase year-over-year, consistent with the ongoing trend of fresh entrants joining the organized workforce.

Additionally, about 16.43 lac members who had previously exited the EPFO system rejoined during the month. This figure represents a significant 12.12% growth compared to July 2024. These returning members, often job switchers, chose to transfer their provident fund balances rather than opting for final settlement, helping safeguard their long-term financial security and social protection.
Female workforce participation also showed positive signs, with 2.80 lakh new female subscribers joining EPFO in July. The net female payroll addition stood at around 4.42 lac, reflecting a modest year-on-year growth of 0.17%, highlighting a gradual shift toward a more inclusive and diverse workforce.
State-wise, the top five states contributed approximately 60.85% of the net payroll addition, adding around 12.80 lakh new members collectively. Maharashtra led the pack with 20.47% of the total net payroll growth during the month.
Other states including Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Haryana, Delhi, Telangana, and Uttar Pradesh each accounted for more than 5% of the total net payroll additions in July, showcasing broad-based regional employment growth across India.
