Bengaluru, Sep 21: In a shocking incident at Bagalagunte, Bengaluru, a man, along with his friend, allegedly murdered his own father for property. The crime, initially portrayed as a case of suicide, came to light after the post-mortem confirmed it as murder.

The deceased has been identified as Manjunath, a businessman from Kempegowda Nagar, Dasarahalli. His elder son, Manoj, is the prime accused, while his friend Praveen Reddy, who reportedly assisted in the crime, has been arrested. Police have launched a manhunt for Manoj.

According to police, Manjunath owned several buildings, four to five residential plots, and a woodworks factory. He had two sons, but the elder son Manoj had discontinued his studies after Class 10 and remained unemployed. Frequent quarrels erupted between father and son, as Manjunath often advised him to take responsibility in life.

Reports suggest that Manoj had been planning to eliminate his father for nearly five years to inherit the property. He had even offered Rs 15 lac as “supari” to his friend Praveen, of which Rs 15,000 was given in advance.

On September 2, Manoj allegedly sent his father home from the factory under the pretext of rest. When Manjunath was lying on the sofa, Manoj and Praveen, after consuming alcohol, strangled him with a towel. They then tried to stage the incident as a suicide.

At first, Manoj informed his family that Manjunath had taken his own life. However, Manjunath’s mother and younger son grew suspicious and lodged a complaint with the police.

A case of unnatural death was registered.

Police investigations and the post-mortem report later confirmed it was a case of murder, exposing the shocking betrayal of a father by his own son for property.
