Udupi, Sep 21: Union Minister of State for Railways V Somanna launched a sharp attack on the Siddaramaiah-led Karnataka government over the ongoing caste census issue, calling it a “hit-and-run government” with “no head or tail.”

Speaking to the media in Udupi, Somanna said, “The High Court must intervene to protect the dignity of the people of the state. This exercise is shaking the trust and confidence of common citizens. During his second term, Siddaramaiah is doing what he should not be doing.”

Minister Somanna further criticized the chief minister for “lacking foresight and refusing to take others into confidence,” adding that “Siddaramaiah could have been a hero if he had set aside his pettiness.”

On the issue of classification, Somanna demanded that Veerashaiva-Lingayat be written under the caste column and Hindu under religion. “There are only six religions in the country, there is no seventh. Siddaramaiah should get a doctorate for misleading people and creating divisions among castes. To strengthen your vote bank, you have disturbed the minds of common people,” he alleged.
