Mumbai, Sep 18: A 43-year-old female caretaker of a reputed Goregaon-based school has been arrested on charges of sexually assaulting a four-year-old girl, police confirmed on Tuesday.
The incident came to light after the child returned home from school on Monday, complaining of severe pain. Her grandmother immediately rushed her to a hospital, where doctors confirmed injuries in her private parts.
Based on the victim’s statement, the Goregaon police registered a case under the POCSO Act and arrested the accused caretaker. She was produced before the Dindoshi Sessions Court, which remanded her in police custody till Friday.
Police said CCTV footage from the school is being reviewed to verify the incident and gather further evidence.
