Mangaluru, Sep 16: The railway electrification work on the Mangaluru–Bengaluru route is progressing, and the section up to Shiribagilu has already been completed. Against this backdrop, an electric local passenger train service between Mangaluru and Subrahmanya Road commenced on Monday, September 15
The passenger train, which was recently introduced on the Mangaluru–Subrahmanya Road stretch in response to a long-pending demand of the people of the region, has been receiving good response. With its conversion into an electric train, the route is now progressing towards a greener and more energy-efficient future.

The local passenger train running between Mangaluru and Subrahmanya Road in the morning, afternoon, and evening will now operate with electric traction. The train made its last run with a diesel engine on Sunday night, and on Monday morning, the first electric passenger train operated on this route. Prior to this, the electrification work from Mangaluru Central to Subrahmanya Road had been completed and successfully tested. The first electric passenger train was welcomed at Puttur.
The changeover of the Mangaluru Central–Subrahmanya Road passenger train from diesel to electric engine has been welcomed. “In addition, as per our request to the railway ministry, I am eagerly looking forward to the replacement of the old rake of this train with a MEMU rake soon,” said MP Capt Brijesh Chowta.
