Bhopal, Sep 13: In a shocking incident, a 28-year-old woman was shot dead in broad daylight outside Roop Singh Stadium in Gwalior on Friday afternoon by her estranged husband. The accused was later overpowered by police and taken into custody.
Eyewitnesses said the accused, Arvind Parihar, a local contractor, intercepted his wife Nandini near the busy stadium premises and fired four to five rounds into her face from point-blank range. As she collapsed, Arvind remained standing beside her body, pistol in hand, while terrified onlookers kept their distance.

Police teams from University police station immediately rushed to the spot. “He had a loaded weapon in his hand—he could have killed a civilian, a policeman, or himself. Police lobbed a tear-gas shell and overpowered him. The team did a commendable job,” said Gwalior SP Dharamveer Yadav. Locals also thrashed the accused before he was taken away.
Nandini was shifted to JAH Hospital but succumbed to her injuries during treatment. A murder case has been registered and the weapon seized.
Troubled Marriage and Allegations: According to police, Arvind and Nandini had a love marriage at an Arya Samaj temple, but their relationship soon turned bitter. On September 9, Nandini approached the SP’s office alleging that Arvind had deceived her—he was already married with children and had been threatening her for months. She had also complained earlier in November 2024 that Arvind and his friend Pooja Parihar assaulted her.
Police officials revealed that the couple’s relationship had been volatile, with several reconciliations. Arvind was released from jail in January this year after a compromise. Recently, however, fresh disputes arose after Nandini allegedly showed interest in another person.
Adding to the complexity, police sources disclosed that Nandini had previously been jailed in connection with the murder of her third husband and was released in 2022.
