Rio de Janeiro, Sep 10: India’s struggles continued at the ongoing ISSF World Cup (rifle/pistol) as the men’s 10m air pistol shooters failed to secure a place in the finals, while China extended its dominance on Wednesday.
Former junior world team champion Samrat Rana, just 20, emerged as the best Indian performer but could only manage 10th place in qualification with a score of 582, falling short of the top-eight cut.
China’s Hu Kai led the qualification with 589 before clinching the gold medal in the finals with a tally of 242.3. His compatriot You Changjie secured silver with 241.5, extending China’s medal tally to four (two gold and two silver) in the competition so far.
For India, Amit Sharma, who had finished 11th in the mixed team 10m air pistol with Surbhi Rao on Tuesday, ended up 28th with 576, while Nishant Rawat finished a distant 42nd scoring 568.
With the setback, India remain medal-less at the prestigious tournament, while China continues to set the pace across shooting disciplines.
