Deoria, Sep 6: A local court in Deoria has sentenced a man to life imprisonment for the rape of a 12-year-old girl that took place nine years ago.
Special Public Prosecutor Vipin Bihari Mishra said the Special Judge Virendra Singh convicted the accused, Giriraj Tiwari, and awarded him life imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 21,000.
The incident occurred on May 29, 2016, when Tiwari, a resident of a village in Bhaluwani area, lured the minor with Rs 100 while she was playing outside her house and then raped her. The victim’s mother later lodged a complaint at Bhaluwani police station.
After examining arguments and evidence, the court found Tiwari guilty of rape, criminal intimidation, and offences under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, Mishra added.
