Anakapalli, Sep 6: Two prisoners escaped from Chodavaram Sub-Jail in Anakapalli district on Friday, triggering a massive manhunt. The dramatic jailbreak, captured on CCTV cameras, showed the inmates attacking jail staff before fleeing.

According to police, Nakka Ravikumar, who was on kitchen duty, suddenly attacked a head warden with a hammer, snatched his keys, and escaped. Amid the chaos, another inmate, Bezawada Ramu, also slipped out. Both were working in the jail kitchen at the time.

Ravikumar had been lodged in jail over misappropriation of pension funds, while Ramu was facing theft charges. Both were remand prisoners.

District police chief Tuhin Sinha confirmed that multiple teams have been deployed to track down the fugitives. “Our teams are looking for them. They are on foot and did not use vehicles. We are searching the surrounding areas. How they managed to get hold of the hammer is under investigation,” he said.

Police have appealed to the public to share any information that could assist in the capture of the two escapees.
