New Delhi, Sep 1: India is making remarkable strides in the semiconductor sector, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Monday ahead of the inauguration of the key conference ‘Semicon India 2025’ scheduled for Tuesday at Yashobhoomi in New Delhi. The Prime Minister took to social media to highlight the importance of the event, saying, “At 10 a.m. tomorrow, 2nd September, I will inaugurate Semicon India – 2025, an important platform that brings together leading stakeholders from the world of semiconductors. This is a sector in which India’s recent strides have been remarkable.”
The three-day conference aims to catalyse the growth of India’s semiconductor ecosystem and will focus on critical themes such as semiconductor fabs, advanced packaging, artificial intelligence, research and investment, infrastructure readiness, smart manufacturing, and innovations in R&D. It will also cover the Design Linked Incentive (DLI) scheme, the growth of startups, international cooperation, and the future roadmap for the semiconductor sector in India.
The event expects over 20,750 participants, including more than 2,500 delegates from over 48 countries, with over 150 speakers, including more than 50 global leaders, and over 350 exhibitors. Highlights include roundtable discussions involving six countries, country-specific pavilions, and dedicated spaces for workforce development and startups.
Organized as part of the broader Semicon India Programme, the conference underscores India’s ambition to become a significant player in the global semiconductor supply chain. This move is especially relevant amid ongoing global supply disruptions and geopolitical shifts that have increased the focus on localized chip manufacturing. The government’s incentive schemes and policy initiatives aim to promote semiconductor fabrication and advanced packaging facilities domestically.
India currently imports nearly all its semiconductor requirements, which are vital for electronics ranging from smartphones to defense systems. With projected demand expected to exceed $100 billion by 2030, building a robust domestic semiconductor industry is viewed as essential for technological self-reliance and economic growth.
The conference will officially commence on September 2 at 10 a.m. with the Prime Minister’s inaugural address, marking an important step forward in India’s pursuit of becoming a semiconductor hub on the global stage.
