Udaipur, Sep 1: In a horrifying incident of domestic cruelty, a man from Udaipur has been sentenced to death for burning his wife alive after harassing her over her dark complexion and weight.
The convict, Kishan, would frequently taunt his wife Laxmi about her appearance and often fought with her. One night, he told her he had brought a medicine for her and applied it across her body. When Laxmi complained of an acidic smell, he ignored her concerns. Moments later, he lit an incense stick on her stomach, setting her ablaze. As she burned, Kishan poured the remaining liquid on her, causing her death.

The Vallabhnagar police registered a case, and Kishan was produced before the Additional District Judge court.
Public Prosecutor Dinesh Paliwal stated that Kishan committed the crime solely due to his wife’s dark complexion. Laxmi died of severe burns.
While delivering the verdict, the judge noted that such heinous cases are increasing and stressed the need to instill fear of the law in society. The court awarded the death penalty to the accused.
