Mangaluru: Man fined Rs 72,287 in cheque bounce case

Mangaluru, Aug 31: The fifth JMFC court in Mangaluru ordered a man to pay a fine of Rs 72,287 after being found guilty in a cheque bounce case.

According to police, Deepak Mathai had issued a cheque towards repayment of a loan taken from Shri Satyanarayana Multipurpose Cooperative Society, Falnir. However, the cheque was dishonoured by the bank, following which a case was registered against him.

Hearing the matter, judge Chirag C of the fifth JMFC court, after considering the arguments from both sides, held the accused guilty and pronounced the verdict.

Out of the total fine amount, Rs 70,287 has been directed to be paid as compensation to the complainant, while the remaining Rs 2,000 must be remitted to the government.

The court has further ordered that in case of default in payment; the accused shall undergo one month of simple imprisonment.
