Mumbai, Aug 29: Actress Raima Sen, who is currently juggling projects in both Hindi and Bengali cinema, recently spoke about the trolling she faced during her appearance in Vivek Agnihotri’s film The Vaccine War. The actress, who is celebrating the re-release of her cherished Hindi film Parineeta, candidly recalled the backlash she received despite people not watching the film.
“Everybody gets trolled, even though I look like the type who doesn’t, I get trolled. Especially during The Vaccine War. Without even watching the film, I was judged so much. Now it doesn’t bother me because people will say what they want to. At this stage, I’ve realised people will talk about you anyway, so it doesn’t matter,” Raima said.
The 45-year-old actress revealed that she even lost followers on social media during that time. “In my entire career, this was the first time such a thing happened. But as my dad and grandmother used to say – bad publicity or good publicity, it is still publicity. It’s better to be talked about than not talked about at all,” she added.
Sharing her thoughts on the intensity of trolling, Raima pointed out that most critics had not even watched the film. “These are faceless trolls. I’m happy I did the film because I think it made quite an impact. I had bad publicity for a change,” she laughed.
The actress also noted that the backlash was more evident in Kolkata, where many assumed she was entering politics. “Bengalis are very protective of their own people. Maybe that’s why it became bigger there. I just hope people have seen the film and changed their mind,” she said.
The Vaccine War, directed by Vivek Agnihotri, highlighted the struggles of India’s medical community in developing a COVID-19 vaccine. Raima played the role of a fiery journalist, Rohini Singh Dhulia, whose scepticism and hard-hitting reporting added a grey shade to the narrative.
