Hyderabad, Aug 29: AIMIM President and MP Asaduddin Owaisi has strongly criticised RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat for suggesting that every Indian couple should have three children, saying there should be no interference in people’s personal lives.
Speaking to NDTV on Friday, Owaisi alleged that Bhagwat made the remark because India’s demographic dividend has been wasted due to lack of employment, education, and training opportunities. “Who is he to interfere in people’s lives? A woman, with her family, will decide how many children they want. RSS leaders themselves remain unmarried and lead celibate lives. We don’t comment on their lifestyle, so why should they comment on others?” he said.

Taking a swipe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Owaisi recalled that in 2019, Modi had spoken of population control, and during the 2024 elections in Rajasthan, he had blamed Muslims for having more children. “Now suddenly Bhagwat says have more children. This hypocrisy exposes their failure,” Owaisi alleged.
On the recent judicial report into last year’s Sambhal violence in Uttar Pradesh, Owaisi termed it biased and unsurprising. Violence had erupted near the Shahi Jama Masjid in November 2024, leaving four dead and several injured. Some sections claimed the report highlighted a demographic shift and alleged targeting of Hindus.
Owaisi accused the Yogi Adityanath government of making life difficult for Muslims. “You cannot expect justice from a government that demolishes houses without due process and conducts encounters that kill or injure people. Even so-called secular parties are silent on Sambhal. But the people will give a democratic reply,” he asserted.
