Valencia Parish celebrates Konkani Manyata Divas with pride

Mangaluru, Aug 24: The Konkani Manyata Divas was celebrated with great enthusiasm and cultural pride at Valencia Parish on Sunday, August 24. The day began with a solemn Eucharistic celebration, presided over by parish priest Fr Roque D’Sa.

Following the Mass, a brief flag hoisting ceremony was held, marking the significance of the day. The morning’s guest of honour was renowned Konkani writer H M Pernal, a respected figure in the Konkani literary fraternity. The event was presided over by Fr Roque D’Sa, along with assistant parish priest Fr Pradeep Rodrigues. Also present were Parish Pastoral Council vice president Ronald Rodrigues, secretary Rita Menezes, and 21 Commission coordinator secretary Steevan Rodrigues.

 

In his address, H M Pernal highlighted the importance of the Konkani language and shared insights on how it can be preserved and promoted in modern times. He emphasized the collective responsibility of the community in keeping the language alive and thriving for future generations.

Vice president Ronald Rodrigues welcomed the gathering, while secretary Rita Menezes delivered the vote of thanks. The programme was smoothly compered by Vincent Mendonca.

The celebration witnessed the participation of around 250 parishioners, all of whom were treated to the traditional delicacy Pathrade, adding a homely and cultural touch to the event.
