Beltangady, Aug 23: A tragic incident occurred in Mundaje village when a 70-year-old man reportedly died while fishing in the Mrityunjaya River near Mundruppadi bridge.

The deceased, Puvappa Nayak, a former member of the Mundaje Gram Panchayat and resident of Chennigudde, is survived by his wife, two sons, and a daughter. On the night of August 21, Nayak had set a fishing trap under the bridge, leaving his son behind, and went to another location to set a second trap. He returned around 7:30 pm to retrieve the trap at the dam but did not return by 8:30 pm.

When his son’s calls went unanswered, family members, neighbors, and relatives launched a search. Nayak was later found fallen in the areca nut plantation of Sanjeev Shetty near Mundruppadi, by the riverside. Medical examination confirmed that he had died.

According to his son Dinesh Nayak, a case has been registered at Dharmasthala police station.
