New Delhi, Aug 20: National Democratic Alliance (NDA) candidate CP Radhakrishnan will file his nomination papers for the vice-presidential election on Wednesday at 11 am in Parliament House.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be the lead proposer in the first set of nomination papers, which will be submitted in four sets. Each set will carry the signatures of 20 proposers and 20 seconders, with Union ministers and senior NDA leaders backing the candidature, signalling consensus within the alliance.

Nearly 160 NDA members, including MPs and Union ministers, are expected to be present during the nomination process.

The decision to nominate Radhakrishnan was taken unanimously at a meeting of NDA floor leaders held at the residence of Union Minister Pralhad Joshi. Union Minister and NDA ally Jitan Ram Manjhi confirmed the full support of alliance partners for Radhakrishnan.

On Sunday, Prime Minister Modi praised Radhakrishnan’s decades-long public life, describing him as a leader of “humility, intellect, and grassroots connect.” In a post on X, Modi highlighted his dedication to community service and empowerment of the marginalised.

Radhakrishnan, currently serving as the Governor of Meghalaya, is a senior BJP leader from Tamil Nadu with an extensive political and administrative career. He has represented the state as a Member of Parliament and is known for his legislative acumen and focus on social upliftment.

The Vice Presidential election is scheduled for next month. With the NDA enjoying a numerical advantage in Parliament, Radhakrishnan is widely expected to sail through.
